It looks like the family is getting help printing flyers and such, but this showed up on my feed and I wanted to share. Not just to help find Ian, but to spread awareness for the dangers of meeting people on Craigslist. If you live in the Portland Area please be aware of the Craigslist scam. This scary has been posted in others places in Oregon and Washington as well.
Please share to help find Ian!
I’m gonna reblog this cause I lived in Seattle for 4.5 years, and when I was looking for work there was this Craigslist ad about house-sitting that paid quite a lot. When I responded, I was told the owner would be out of the country for awhile and didn’t need to interview me, but would send me a $1700 check to get started, and I could show up at the house on X date to get started.
I was young and naive, and thrilled to get a check so large as to cover living expenses and college debts at the time, but I mentioned it to my parents, who threw up a ton of red flags. As I looked at it closer, it was too good to be true, and who the flying fig sends out $1700 checks to someone they haven’t even interviewed?
Long story short, I mailed the check back and never went, but wondered sometimes if I’d almost been trafficked. This scam works its way around in various forms, and looks like it has claimed a victim. Please spread this, especially if you’re in the Northwest US, both for knowledge and if anyone can help this family, or has knowledge that can help this family.
